A group of Brentwood High School freshmen will compete this weekend in the regional round of CyberPatriot, the national high school cyber defense competition.
The team known as Sudo consists of BHS students Bradford Soltis, Laura Guo, Nick Shultz, Michael Palmaccio and Daniel Claudio and is currently ranked number one in Tennessee and number eight in the nation in the silver division.
“This group of freshmen under the direction of Warren Soltis has worked incredibly hard, meeting up after school in my room to research and study,” said BHS Teacher and Sponsor of the CyberPatriot Club Larry Kedigh.
CyberPatriot is a program that challenges the next generation to develop countermeasures and deploy preventative controls against ever-evolving cyber-security threats. As important as the technical skills, this program teaches teamwork, perseverance and critical thinking.
“A freshman team qualifying for the regional round of the CyberPatriot competition is rare with over 183 teams competing in the silver division,” said Coach Soltis. “Each Sudo team member should be very proud of their tenacity and unique problem-solving skills that will enable them to pursue success in virtually any field.”
If team Sudo advances past the regional round, they will compete in the national finals which will be held March 11-15 in Washington D.C.
