Donation from City Commission Helps Brentwood Schools

It is said that it takes the support of a community to raise a child – and on Monday, August 11, the City of Brentwood stood behind that saying by donating approximately $216,600 to fund various improvements and programs at Brentwood schools.
Since 1986, the City of Brentwood has annually allocated money for schools and recreational programs as a part of the fiscal year budget.
“I believe local support makes a real difference,” said Brentwood Mayor Betsy Crossley. “The citizens of Brentwood have always felt like our schools are awesome, and we want to give them a little bit of help.”
This year, the city contributed $60,000 to Brentwood High School; $60,000 to Ravenwood High School; $15,000 to Brentwood Middle School; $6,600 to Sunset Middle School; $15,000 to Woodland Middle School; and $10,000 to each of Brentwood’s six elementary schools: Crockett, Edmondson, Kenrose, Lipscomb, Scales and Sunset.
Principals from each school took to the podium to thank commissioners and the city for the added funding to be used mainly for technology upgrades, specifically “computers on wheels,” or COWs.
“The extra funds provide supplemental funding for technology needs such as laptops for our school and some online tutorials and assessments,” said BMS Principal Bill Harlin. “We strive to be good stewards of the Commission’s gifts – they believe in us; they know as educators we have prepared their own children for life; and they want to ensure that the children of Brentwood have the same opportunity as their own. We cannot thank them enough for their donation and support.”
The city has donated approximately $4.6 million of extra funding for Brentwood schools over the last 29 years.
“We are able to experience success because we have outstanding teachers as well as tremendous support from our communities,” said Crockett Elementary Principal Robert Bohrer. “The City of Brentwood graciously provides funds that are above our budget received by our district. This generosity only exemplifies the commitment they have for bettering our schools and community. Knowing that our community supports what we do makes all the difference.”
