Changes to GPA Calculation and Graduation Participation Policies

Published October 10, 2014

Parents of high school students will notice some changes to students’ GPA calculations and graduation policies for this school year. On March 24, 2014, the Board Policy on Graduation Participation (Board Policy 4.605) was revised, effective the beginning of the 2014-15 school year. Additionally, the Board Policy on GPA Calculation (Board Policy 4.600) was revised at the May 19, 2014, Board meeting effective the 2014-15 school year.

“Schools have been supplying this information to students and parents since school started,” Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools Dr. Charles Farmer said. “We wanted to continue to assist schools in getting this new information out to parents.”

Per Board Policy 4.605, qualification for and participation in graduation or commencement ceremonies shall be limited to seniors who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for a diploma. Beginning this school year, students completing requirements in the summer may participate in a district-wide summer graduation ceremony.
