BHS Science Studies Little Harpeth River

Brentwood High’s Advanced Placement Environmental Science class took their work outside to study the Little Harpeth River.
“We are collecting real-life science data down at the Little Harpeth in Brentwood,” said AP Science Teacher Doug Anderson. “As a part of their unit on biodiversity, my students are collecting macroinvertebrate species and creating an index of those species.”
With that index, students can determine the quality of water in the Little Harpeth in Brentwood. Students data will be used as back up data to inform the City of Brentwood about the river.
“The City of Brentwood has asked me to communicate our findings for back up data to warn them if anything has changed in the river,” said Anderson.
The good news? The students’ data is good for the Little Harpeth – it shows that the river is still relatively healthy.
