Academic All-Stars – Hillsboro School (Middle)

Published March 6, 2018

Hillsboro seventh grader Lauren Fontenot is the kind of student who enjoys a good challenge and loves to learn. So it’s no surprise that teachers and administrators selected her as the school’s Academic All-Star for grades 6-8.

“Lauren engages challenges with gusto and wants more with each passing day,” said teacher Chris MacDonald. “Lauren is an incredibly gifted deep thinker. She is a phenomenally expressive writer who works tirelessly to ensure that her writing is not just good, but great.”

Lauren began attending Hillsboro in sixth grade and says the teachers are amazing.

“I like how they really push you to be your best and not just be a student, but be a scholar,” said Lauren. “My favorite subjects are math and language arts. My math teacher, Ms. Blackwell, is really funny, and my language arts teacher, Mr. MacDonald, really pushes us to think outside the box.”

Not only is Lauren a talented writer, but she is also quite the musician.

“I play flute in the band,” said Lauren. “It has been a great experience. Our band director, Mr. Gish, is awesome and he really teaches us well.”

When she grows up, Lauren says she might like to be a writer or an event planner. No matter what she chooses, Lauren says she’ll never end her quest for knowledge.

“I love learning new things, and I love that moment when you finally understand something,” said Lauren. “I just love that feeling.”
