Academic All-Stars – Heritage Elementary
Published March 27, 2015
Fifth grader Jonathan Nelson is known throughout Heritage Elementary as a hard-working student with a heart of gold.
So when teachers and administrators at HES began the process of selecting a 2014-15 Academic All-Star, one name immediately came to mind.
“Jonathan is always willing to give a helping hand,” said HES Teacher Jackie Dimitt. “He is someone we can rely on often to assist with things in the classroom, as well as when a new student joins our room. He does a great job of making this student feel welcome and a part of our classroom family. He works incredibly hard, always putting forth his best effort.”
Jonathan has attended Heritage Elementary since kindergarten. While he’s excited to join his big brother in middle school next year, Jonathan says he will miss all the wonderful teachers at HES.
“I like how everyone here is so nice,” said Jonathan. “The teachers are great. Ms. Dimitt and Ms. Knoll have been really helpful.”
Although football is Jonathan’s favorite activity outside of school, he likes to tackle math equations in class.
“Math is my favorite subject,” said Jonathan. “I especially like adding fractions. My dad is a banker so I guess I get it from him.”
In addition to a love for math, Jonathan’s father has also inspired him to give his best effort in the classroom.
“My dad always tells me that grades matter and school matters,” said Jonathan. “He says, ‘If you don’t get a good education you might not have a good job in the future,’ so that’s what inspires to me to get good grades.”
