Academic All-Star – Woodland Middle

Published April 16, 2015

Teachers describe Woodland Middle School student Ashley Pollock as a genuinely kind, positive and passionate person who works hard both in and out of the classroom.

“Woodland is proud to name Ashley Pollock as its Academic All-Star,” said Principal Priscilla Fizer. “Dogged and driven in her pursuit of knowledge, Ashley is sure to be at the highest ideal of education, a lifelong learner. Serving as a Student Council representative, she has shown great leadership in promoting the school’s service projects and is a strong role model for her peers.”

Having moved to Williamson County from Minnesota in seventh grade, Ashley says she feels blessed to be at such a wonderful school.

“Here at Woodland, you get chances to develop yourself,” said Ashley. “Before I moved here I had a sort of reading disability. But my reading teacher really pushes me to do well, and now I’m excelling in every reading class and I’m going into English Honors next year.”

In fact, Ashley says reading is not just her favorite subject area; it’s also one of her preferred pastimes when she’s not acting in plays or performing in chorus.

When asked what motivates her to succeed in school, Ashley says she hopes to carry on a family tradition.

“My parents met at Brigham Young University; my brother is there now; and my sister is probably going to go there,” said Ashley. “So I want to get good grades so that I can go there and continue the family legacy.”

As for life after college, Ashley says he would like to be a lawyer, an actor or a reading teacher. In the meantime, she’ll keep doing all the things that led her to be named an Academic All-Star in the first place.

“I was surprised when I found out about this award,” said Ashley. “It was a great way to start off the day! I feel honored.”
