Academic All-Star – Walnut Grove Elementary

Published February 12, 2015

Hardworking and kind-hearted. Those are two adjectives teachers at Walnut Grove Elementary often use when describing 11 year-old Mae Brown. So it’s no surprise that Mae was recently chosen as the school’s Academic All-Star.

“Mae is a wonderful student and a kind friend to everyone at Walnut Grove,” said Principal Dr. Kate Donnelly. “She is an incredibly hard worker who perseveres in all of her studies and finds time to serve her Walnut Grove community as a Student Ambassador. Mae is a role model for all students at Walnut Grove!”

Mae has attended Walnut Grove since kindergarten and says the teachers at WGES are nice and helpful.

“My teachers this year are Miss Imbrecht and Mr. Heacock,” said Mae. “They help me a lot, and they’re just really good teachers.”

Not only is Mae known as a diligent student, but she is also an accomplished artist whose drawings have been put on display in the school. When she grows up, Mae hopes to have a job where she can work with animals.

“I want to be a veterinarian,” said Mae. “I really like animals. I have five pets: two dogs and three crabs. I just think I’d like to help sick animals and make them feel better.”
