Academic All-Star – Sunset Middle

Eighth grader Madison Sumatra has made quite an impression on the teachers and staff at Sunset Middle School. That’s according to Principal Dr. Tim Brown, who recently announced that Madison had been named the school’s Academic All-Star for the 2014-15 school year.
“Madison is a dedicated, hard-worker who strives to achieve perfection in academics,” said Principal Dr. Tim Brown. “She is held in high esteem by her peers. She shows commitment in not only academics but athletically as a member of an elite travel soccer team. Her teachers often say, ‘When we grow up, we want to be like Madison.'”
Madison, whose favorite subject is science, says she has an amazing group of teachers.
“All the teachers and staff are so kind and so nice and they really help me out if I have trouble,” said Madison. “I love science because it’s fun to do experiments and learn new things. We’ve been learning about classification and the six kingdoms for organisms.”
Not only is Madison talented in the classroom, but she is also a gifted athlete.
“I run track and play soccer,” said Madison. “It gets all of my stress out, and it’s fun to be with my teammates.”
When she grows up, Madison would like to have a job where she can make a real difference in people’s lives.
“I’d like to do something in the medical field,” said Madison. “I might like to be a pediatrician because I like to help kids.”
Although she’ll miss the teachers and staff at Sunset Middle, Madison says she looks forward to making the jump to high school this fall.
“I’m really excited because I can’t wait to get into all of the clubs and activities,” said Madison, who promises to keep working hard at the next level. “Getting a good education is important because it will help you when it’s time to start a career.”
