Academic All-Star – Sunset Elementary

Fifth grader Ella Sylvester is a dedicated, diligent and dependable student who can usually be seen with a smile on her face.

So when it came time to select an Academic All-Star for Sunset Elementary, administrators say the choice was clear.

“Ella is a hard-working student who gives 100 percent,” said Principal Karen Caldwell. “Even when a task is hard, Ella strives to do her best and will not give up, demonstrating incredible perseverance at all times. She is kind, thoughtful and willing to help any person in need.”

Ella began attending Sunset Elementary in second grade and says the teachers are amazing.

“My teachers impact me in such a good way,” said Ella. “Mrs. Shelley and Mrs. Cooper push me to go forward. Social studies and science are my two favorite subjects. I like learning about the past and how things react to one another.”

Ella is also active in student council which has led to some of her closest friendships.

“I think that we’ve been together so much that we’re like best friends,” said Ella when speaking of her fellow student council members.

Staying motivated in the classroom can be tough at times, but Ella says her parents help her stay focused.

“My mom helps me sometimes with my homework and she’ll say things like, ‘School comes first,'” said Ella. “My dad helps me with science and stuff because he’s a doctor, and he’s good with that kind of stuff.”
