Academic All-Star – Summit High

Published April 16, 2015

Senior Lauren Smith has been named the 2014-15 Academic All-Star for Summit High School. Principal Sarah Lamb says Lauren has shown great perseverance during her time at Summit High.

“Lauren has been at Summit since we opened in 2011,” said Principal Sarah Lamb. “She has had several life challenges and has come through them with tremendous determination and with a smile. Over the course of four years, Lauren has worked with numerous teachers to get help so she can be successful and pursue her aspiration of going to college next year.”

Speaking of college, Lauren says she recently learned where she’ll be going to school next year.

“I’m going to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga,” said Lauren. “I’ve been waiting on a decision for a few months now but I finally heard back from them two weeks ago. I’m so excited.”

Although she hasn’t decided on a career just yet, Lauren says she does have an idea of what she wants to study at UTC.

“I’ve been thinking about majoring in either business or public relations,” said Lauren. “Either way, I just want to succeed. I want to do things I’ve seen other people not do. I want to do it by myself.”

While she is excited to begin college, Lauren says she’ll miss the wonderful atmosphere and staff at Summit.

“It has been nice to watch the school grow from the start,” said Lauren. “It just feels like home, and everybody makes an effort to be there for you and help you through things so it’s like a family.”
