Academic All-Star – Scales Elementary

Published April 30, 2015

Scales Elementary fifth grader Kent Babe has been described as a dependable student who is always on task. So it came as no surprise that teachers and administrators chose Kent as the school’s Academic All-Star.

Kent’s teachers say he is intrinsically driven to do well academically and has a strong desire to take responsibility for his academic success. As for Kent, he credits much of his success to the wonderful teachers at Scales.

“I like that our teachers want us to be the best,” said Kent. “They really know the subjects they teach.”

Kent’s favorite subjects are science and social studies because he likes discovering new things and learning about history. When he’s not in school, Kent can often be found reading his favorite books or swimming competitively.

It’s that competitive nature that drives him to do well both in the pool and in the classroom.

“My education is important to me because I want to get good grades and get a good job,” said Kent, who has two specific careers in mind. “I might want to be either a botanist or an engineer when I grow up. I kind of like plants, but we don’t get to study them that much in school. Plus, there’s so much technology now that being an engineer might be a good job.”
