Academic All-Star – Oak View Elementary

Oak View Elementary School fifth grader Joey Ham is known among teachers and staff as an excellent student whose commitment to school is second to none.
“Joey personifies the character traits that we teach at Oak View,” said Principal Dr. Tom Morris. “He is a quiet leader who always strives to do his best whether individually or in group situations. His preparedness is exceptional, and he is a great role model for our fifth grade team.”
That’s why it’s no surprise that administrators at Oak View chose him to be their Academic All-Star for the 2014-15 school year. Having attended Oak View since kindergarten, Joey says the teachers at OVES are among the best around.
“I like Oak View because it’s an amazing school,” said Joey. “The teachers here are really good, and everyone is friendly. It’s a really good place.”
Joey’s favorite subjects are social studies, math and science. In addition to his involvement with boy scouts, Joey stays active by participating in the school’s student leadership and safety patrol programs. He also enjoys spending time outdoors.
“When I grow up I want to be a forest ranger with the national parks and state parks,” said Joey. “The first national park I visited was Smoky Mountain National Park, and since then I’ve just really enjoyed nature.”
In the meantime, Joey pledges to keep working hard so that he can accomplish his hopes and dreams.
“I know that school can be hard at times, but in the future it’s going to help you if you pay attention and you stay on task,” said Joey. “Then, you’ll know what you’re supposed to know and it will lead to success.”
