Academic All-Star – Kenrose Elementary

Published May 15, 2015

Eleven-year-old Avery Guay is known throughout her school as a hard-working student who is kind to others. So when it came time for administrators at Kenrose Elementary to select an Academic All-Star, Avery more than fit the bill.

Although she has only been at the school for one year, teachers say Avery has established herself as a leader who always gives 100 percent and treats everyone with respect.

Having moved to Brentwood from New Hampshire at the start of the school year, Avery says the transition was hard at first.

“It was sad because I was leaving all my friends, but everyone here is nice so it has been good,” said Avery. “The teachers are really helpful too.”

Avery says her favorite subject is science because she likes to conduct experiments. When she’s not in school, Avery enjoys playing the piano and drawing. She’s also a skilled lacrosse player who played this year on Woodland Middle’s sixth grade team.

Moving forward, Avery plans to keep working hard so that she can build a bright future.

“School is important to me because I want to get good grades and get into a good college,” said Avery. “It’s hard to know what I want to be when I grow up because there are multiple things I want to do. I’m just really happy I won this award, and it makes me feel very proud.”
