Academic All-Star – Hillsboro School (Elementary)

Published March 6, 2015

Humble, respectful and dedicated. They are words that are often used to describe 11-year-old Brittany Mangrum, who was recently chosen as Hillsboro School’s Academic All-Star for grades K-5.

“Brittany is a scholar through and through,” said teachers Kelly Geasley and Nicole Lyke. “She always gives her best effort and has made tremendous growth. Brittany faces all challenges head-on and with a smile. Her positive attitude, helpful spirit and determined nature make her a wonderful role model and friend.”

Now a fifth grader, Brittany has attended Hillsboro since pre-K and says the school is truly special.

“There are a lot of nice people here,” said Brittany. “It just feels like home.”

Brittany says her favorite subject is math because she likes to solve problems. Outside of class, she enjoys playing basketball and spending quality time with her family.

As for being named an Academic All-Star, Brittany says it’s good to know the hard work is paying off.

“I know I have to keep it up because I want to be really smart,” said Brittany. “I want to get a good job when I grow up.”
