Academic All-Star – Heritage Middle

Published May 14, 2015

Eighth grader Caroline Wood is known among teachers and staff at Heritage Middle School for her enthusiasm, positive attitude and attention to detail, making her an ideal candidate for the Academic All-Star Award.

“Caroline is an incredible student who shows kindness, respect and compassion to her friends and teachers here at Heritage Middle,” said Principal Marlena Gross-Taylor. “She is a model student who has shown her teachers determination and perseverance academically. She has simply blossomed this year, and she works so hard. We are proud to name Caroline as our 2014-15 HMS Academic All-Star!”

As she finishes up her time at Heritage Middle, Caroline says she will miss her teachers the most.

“The teachers here are super nice,” said Caroline. “They encourage me, and when I’m worried about a test they help me calm down by saying, ‘You got this.'”

Caroline says she’s excited to start attending Independence High in the fall and looks forward to all of all new and exciting classes, especially in the field of science.

“Science is my favorite subject, said Caroline. “I’ve always liked science, and I just love learning about all of the different areas. My science teacher this year was Mrs. Shrum and she is awesome.”

When she’s not studying, Caroline likes to practice her piano skills, hang out with friends and play volleyball. She was also a member of the Heritage Middle School chorus.

Although the school year may be coming to an end, Caroline says the self-confidence that comes with winning this award will give her momentum heading into the fall.

“I feel very proud,” said Caroline. “This is a great honor.”
