5 Ways for Parents to Get More Involved this Year
Published July 28, 2014
As all of us gather for the beginning of school, some of us for the first time ever and some experienced veterans, you might be wondering how you can get involved in your child’s school – or you may just need a refresher. Don’t worry, your WCS PTO Leadership Council has some tips for getting involved this school year.
Engage in Your Child’s School Life:
“Your PTOs and Booster Clubs have many levels of opportunities to be engaged from in school volunteers, tasks that can be completed at home, to bringing in goodies for events. We welcome all levels of engagement.” – Jennifer Smith, Hillsboro School
Be Informed:
“Be in the know, subscribe to and read InFocus. Read communications from WCS, your school, and your PTO. Also, volunteer and follow through. There are many levels of volunteer opportunities.” – Angela S. Mill, Nolensville Elementary
Opportunities Abound:
“From the middle school perspective, even though you think there are no opportunities, there are! Volunteer through your PTO for office duty or PBIS events. There are always opportunities. Stay informed; read the daily announcements; ask your kids what is happening at school! There is always something to be involved in.” – Debbie Roth, Woodland Middle
Don’t Be Bashful:
“Everyone can bring something to the party – whether you join PTO, attend events at the school, come have lunch with your kids, whatever – just get involved in your child’s education experience.” – Stacy Parish, Allendale Elementary
Get to Know Your Child’s Teacher and School Staff:
“Get involved; get to know your school staff and teachers; volunteer often; and stay informed.” – Leslie Murray, Sunset Elementary
