2014-15 School Year Accomplishments

No matter how you slice it, the 2014-15 school year was one for the books. WCS students, staff, parents and community members have many reasons to feel proud as we bring an end to another successful year. Below is a brief list of this year’s notable accomplishments in the areas of academics, the arts, and athletics.

Academics

  • Hillsboro School, Kenrose Elementary and Trinity Elementary were named 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools.
  • WCS led the state of Tennessee in TCAP Achievement.
  • Williamson County Schools recorded the highest ACT composite average in the history of the district. The WCS Class of 2014 posted an ACT composite score of 23.5, which outscored the state and national averages of 19.3 and 21, respectively.
  • Twenty-seven Williamson County schools were named 2014 Reward Schools by the Tennessee Department of Education. Reward Schools are the top five percent of schools in the state for annual growth and the top five percent for academic achievement.
  • Hillsboro School was named the 2014 SCORE Prize winner for middle schools.
  • Thirty WCS seniors were named National Merit Semifinalists.
  • Twenty-eight WCS seniors were named National Merit Finalists.
  • WCS earned all A’s in achievement on the Tennessee Department of Education’s 2014 State Report Card.
  • Ravenwood High School senior Gene Li is one of 141 seniors nationwide to be named a 2015 U.S. Presidential Scholar.
  • Franklin High School senior Tia Hyatt received the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross which is the highest national award that can be given to a high school JROTC cadet.

Arts

  • Centennial High School senior Chase Miller was selected as a member of the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band.
  • Twenty WCS students were named to the All State Choir.
  • Three Williamson County students were selected for the 2014 All-National Honor Orchestra.
  • Franklin High student Rachel Sharp was named to the 2014 National Honor Choir.
  • Eight WCS students were named to the eleventh and twelfth grade All-State Band, and seven students were named to the ninth and tenth grade All-State Band.
  • A total of five WCS students were named to the eleventh and twelfth grade All-State Orchestra, and five students were named to the ninth and tenth grade All-State Orchestra.
  • Brentwood High student Lisa Qu received the American Vision Award (Best of Show) at the 2015 Scholastic Art Awards.
  • Five Williamson County students received a Gold Key Award at the 2015 Scholastic Art Awards.
  • Seven WCS students were selected to perform in the 2014-15 Honor Band of America.
  • WCS held its second annual Fine Arts Festival March 28, giving students from across the county a chance to display their incredible artistic talent.

Athletics

  • Ravenwood High student Steven Karl won the TSSAA Class AAA Boys Singles Tennis State Title.
  • Brentwood High student Somer Henry won the TSSAA Class AAA Girls Singles Tennis State Title.
  • The Ravenwood High girls tennis team won its sixth consecutive TSSAA State Championship.
  • Centennial High School senior Johnny Heckman and Ravenwood High sophomore Karlie Paschall were named the Tennessee Soccer Gatorade Players of the Year.
  • The Brentwood High School volleyball team won its tenth state volleyball championship.
  • Brentwood High won the TSSAA Class AAA 4×800 Relay State Championship.
  • Centennial High student Jordan Thomas won the TSSAA Class AAA 200-meter dash State Championship.
  • Ravenwood High student Matt Rainey won the TSSAA Class AAA 800-meter run State Championship.
  • Brentwood High student Sofie Rovenstine won the TSSAA Class AAA State Championship in the long jump.
  • Page High sophomore Mary Leichner won the TSSAA Class A-AA State Championship in pole vault.
  • Page High’s Peter Leichner won the TSSAA Class A-AA State Championship in pole vault.
  • Brentwood High student Hailey Hendry won the TSSAA Class AAA State Championships in both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.
  • Ravenwood High student Amber Tanner won the TSSAA Class AAA State Championship in the 300-meter hurdles.
  • Ravenwood High School Senior Van Jefferson was selected to play in the 2015 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
  • Centennial High’s Deon Sanders, Ravenwood’s Austin Percy and Franklin’s Corey Fatony were named to the East/West Tennessee All-Star Team.
  • The Centennial High School Cheerleading Squad won the 2014 TSSAA State Large Varsity Cheerleading Championship.
  • The Ravenwood High School Cheerleading Squad won the 2014 TSSAA Competition Cheerleader State Championship.
  • Ravenwood High School senior Ellie Marquardt was named the 2014-15 Tennessee Cheerleader of the Year.
  • Hillsboro School eighth graders Lauren McReynolds and Camryn Felt were named UCA Cheer Camp All-Americans.
  • Centennial High cheerleader Kali Hicks and Ravenwood cheerleader Ellie Marquardt were selected to the East/West Tennessee All-Star Team.
  • Two WCS high school wrestlers, Brentwood’s Tristan Roa and Franklin’s Josh Filbey, won TSSAA state championships in their division.
  • WCS celebrated the district’s top athletes May 21 at the inaugural WILLCO Awards held at the Franklin Theatre.
