Published April 25, 2014

While it's something many of us have known for a long time, there is now additional proof that Williamson County Schools is among the top districts in the nation. According to the website schooldigger.com, which ranks schools and school districts, WCS is first in the nation among public school districts with more than 20,000 students.

The website ranks schools based on the most recently reported test scores. Those scores are calculated by taking the average math score across all grades and the average English score across all grades and adding them together for a combined score. District rankings are calculated by averaging the rank percentile of the schools within each district.

Williamson County Schools is the highest ranked district in Tennessee with a Rank Score of 0.941. WCS ranks fourth in the nation when compared with public school districts with more than 10,000 students and first in the nation when compared with school districts with more than 20,000 students.
"I can’t think of a better way to mark National Teacher Appreciation Week than with this news," said WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, who released the data to the district May 5. "This is only possible because our teachers are the best ever!"

According to the website, SchoolDigger.com only ranks schools that are designated as "Regular" elementary, middle, or high schools by the U.S. Department of Education. In order to be ranked, the schools must have current published test scores from their state's Department of Education.
