WCS Students Recognized at Scholastic Art Awards

Dozens of Williamson County students will soon be honored at a reception for the 2014 Scholastic Art Award regional winners. The Scholastic Art Awards is one of the oldest and most prestigious student art competitions in the country.

The awards reception to honor Gold and Silver Key winners and their teachers will be held at the Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art Saturday, February 1. Regional winners are eligible for scholarships and cash prizes, are part of the exhibition at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art, and have their work sent to New York City for national judging.

This year's winners include Ravenwood High School student Heather Hernandez, Franklin High School student Vikka Schweer and Independence High School student Beverly Warner. Their work is among the five pieces that received the American Vision Award which is considered "best of show."

The Scholastic exhibition will be on view at Cheekwood in Massey Auditorium from January 31 through March 2. Select this LINK to view a complete list of all the winners.
