Published August 16, 2013
ACT results are in, and for the second consecutive year, Williamson County Schools recorded the highest composite average in the history of the district. The WCS Class of 2013 posted an ACT composite score of 23.4 in 2013, up from 23.1 the previous year. Williamson County Schools outscored the state and national averages of 19.5 and 20.9, respectively, with each experiencing a 0.2 dip from 2012.
Brentwood High School posted the highest average of any Williamson County high school with a 25.4. Middle College High School improved the most, going from a 19.1 in 2012 to a 20.5 in 2013. In all, seven Williamson County high schools also improved upon last year's scores.
In addition, WCS students set high marks in regards to college and career readiness benchmarks, which are target scores in each of the four subject areas that suggest a higher probability of success in college entry-level courses. Forty percent of the district's graduating class were identified as having met all four benchmarks, the highest level WCS students have achieved to date. That's compared to 26 percent at the national level and 18 percent state-wide.
"Our success story is evidence of what can happen when local control works in a school district where taxpayers, parents, students and communities work together to do what is right," said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. "The good news is: we're just getting started. We haven't hit our full stride yet, and the best days are still to come."
