WCS Educator Named Regional Teacher of the Year

Published March 28, 2014

Franklin High School Math Teacher Tracy Harmon has been named this year's Mid Cumberland Regional High School Teacher of the Year. Harmon was selected for the honor among educators from more than a dozen school systems.

Harmon, who is in her 16th year at Franklin High, says she is surprised and honored to represent the Mid Cumberland region as the high school teacher of the year.

"I work with many teachers in Williamson County who are more deserving of this award," said Harmon. "What I enjoy most about teaching is the day-to-day interaction that I have with my students and the chance to build relationships throughout each year. It’s also exciting to watch students as they start out struggling with an abstract concept in math and then suddenly make connections that lead them in taking it to the next level."

Harmon will now be considered for Teacher of the Year honors for the state of Tennessee, which will be announced in the fall.

This is the second year in a row that a WCS math teacher has earned this honor. Page High Math Teacher Laurie Mauldin was named Mid Cumberland Regional Teacher of the Year in 2013.
