WCS Celebrates National Merit Finalists

Williamson County Schools is proud to announce 34 seniors have been named National Merit Finalists. This ties the district record for the number of Finalists which was set last year. The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.

Of the nearly 1.5 million entries, only 15,000 students nationwide earn this prestigious honor each year. In order to become a finalist, high school students must score well on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test and meet other high standards set forth by the program.

"This is a wonderful achievement, and I am so proud of what these students have accomplished," said Williamson County Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney. "It speaks volumes to the dedication of our students, parents, teachers and school staffs that we have once again tied a district record for the number of National Merit Finalists."

These students will have the opportunity to compete for National Merit Scholarships, which are underwritten by business organizations and higher education institutions that share National Merit Scholarship Corporation’s goal of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
