WCS Ambassador Makes $30,000 Donation to High School

Trips to and from athletic events are about to get much more comfortable for athletes at Brentwood High School. That's thanks to a generous donation by John Maher Builders.
On September 17, Company President John Maher presented the BHS Athletic Department with a check for $30,000, which will pay for access to activity buses to transport student athletes for game-day trips.
The idea for the gift was born out of Maher's participation in the 2013 WCS Ambassador Program, which provides community and business leaders with an in-depth look at how WCS provides the quality education that brings families and businesses to Williamson County.
Maher was one of 19 individuals who spent one day each month learning about the district, traveling to schools and meeting students and educators. At the end of the program, each ambassador presented his or her partnership with the district.
While Maher has participated in a number of programs for the district, one of his most ambitious plans revolved around finding a way to provide student athletes with a roomier, more comfortable ride to and from away games. He began working with Curt Mitchell, general manager of Carpenter Bus Sales, who agreed to offer his company's bus service at a significantly reduced rental rate.
Not only will the buses be available to provide transportation to athletes much sooner than the county school buses which don't become available until 4:30 p.m., most of the buses will also feature air conditioning, leather seats and small television screens.
But it doesn't end with Brentwood High. Mitchell says Carpenter Bus Sales will offer the same service at the same reduced rates to any school in the county.
