TN Shows Dramatic Improvement with NAEP Scores

Governor Bill Haslam praised school districts across the state on Thursday, November 7 during a news conference where National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results were released. According to the Governor, Tennessee was the number one state in educational growth going from "the 40's to the 30's" among the 50 states.
The NAEP tests fourth and eighth graders in math and reading. Results shared Thursday were from the most recent test period in 2012. Williamson County School Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney attributes the success to our outstanding educators.
“I stand with the Governor and celebrate the improved NAEP scores that school districts across the state experienced thanks to the work of thousands of teachers in Tennessee, and more specifically, the outstanding work of our own," said Looney. "WCS had a large number of schools participate in the most recent nationwide NAEP testing which makes me believe we had a significant impact on the statewide results. That being said, I am the first to admit that test scores are but one indicator of success. I am proud of the focus that our teachers have put on building positive relationships with students and on ensuring that instruction is relevant, rigorous and relentless.”
