Student Spotlight Awards are given to Williamson County students who placed first in state or national competitions. Each Student Spotlight award winner is recognized before the School Board at its monthly meeting. Listed below are the district's Student Spotlight Award winners for the month of April.

Brentwood Students Score Perfect 36 on ACT

Brentwood High School students Christopher Cortez, Pawel Durakiewicz and Waqqas Fazili aced the ACT in March. The accomplishment puts them among less than one-tenth of one percent of students taking the ACT nationally who receive a top score.

The ACT exam assesses students' academic readiness for college and consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores.


Brentwood High Media Students Win Award for Best Music Video

Brentwood High School students Andrew Hughes, Conner Holmes and Apakorn Burapharat tied for first place in the category of Music Video at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences competition. Their teacher is Ronnie Adcock.

 

Brentwood High Media Students Win Award for Best PSA

Brentwood High School students Apakorn Burapharat, Ben Sherrill and Sami Edgerton won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award for Best Public Service Announcement. Their teacher is Ronnie Adcock.

 

Brentwood High Media Students Win Award for Non-Fiction/Short Form

Brentwood High School students Timmy Derryberry, Caleb Howard, Andrew Hughes, Apakorn Burapharat, Ben Sherrill, Noah Osuna, Andy McDonald, DJ Moulton, Cassie Chidester and Julianne Martin won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award for Non-Fiction/Short Form. Their teacher is Ronnie Adcock.

 

Brentwood High Media Students Win Award for Non-Fiction/Long Form

Brentwood High School students Hannah Thomas, Sierra Phillips and Hannah Feldhacker won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award for Non-Fiction/Long Form. Their teacher is Ronnie Adcock.

 

Brentwood High Students Win State Championship at National Forensic League

Two Brentwood High School students won the Tennessee State Championship at the National Forensic League Competition. Rebekah Ninan won for Congressional Debate House 1, and Soroosh MacLean won for Congressional Debate Senate. Their teacher is Harriet Medlin.


Centennial High Media Students Win Award for Best Music Video & Audio

Centennial High School students Josh Katina, Noah Shirley, Patrick Mills and Caleb Simons tied for first place in the category of Music Video at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards. Josh Katina also won the award for Audio Sound. Their teacher is Dawn Marek.

 

Fairview High Student Wins First Place at TN State HOSA Competition

Fairview High School student Savannah Hester won first place in the category of Medical Terminology at the Tennessee State HOSA Competition. Her teacher is Stephanie Keen.

 

Franklin High Students Win First Place at Tennessee State Mock Trial

Three Franklin High School students won first place at the Tennessee State Mock Trial. Maddie Bouton won Defense Witness; Carson Cook won Best Trial Defense Attorney; and Jimmy Wester was awarded the Overall Most Valuable Participant. Ray Scheetz is their teacher.

 


Franklin High Media Students Win Award for Newscast & Best Editor

Franklin High School students Jake Helton, Luke Dyra and Dalton Smith won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award in the category of Newscast. In addition, Jake Helton tied for Best Editor. Their teacher is Patrick Nichols.

 

Independence High Media Students Win Award for Fiction/Short Form & Best Talent

Independence High School students Raquel Kimball and Max Hanson won the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences award for Fiction/Short Form. Mac Maguire won the award for Best Talent. Their teacher is Matt Balzer.


Page High Student Scores Perfect 36 on ACT

Page High School Junior Michael Lee recently did something few students in the nation can lay claim to: he received a perfect score on the ACT.

Lee earned a composite score of 36 on the ACT, which assesses students’ academic readiness for college. While the number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.

Page High Media Students Win Multiple Awards

Page High School students Zach Boisjoly and Sam Brancheau won first place for Sports Broadcast at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards. In addition, Sam Brancheau won two first place awards for Best Director and Best Photographer. Their teacher is Terry Flowers.

 

Page High Students Win First Place at TN State HOSA Competition

Page High students Gabby Dees, Katie Easterling, Brooke Hosfield and Peyton Clark won first place in the category of Public Health at the Tennessee State HOSA Competition. Donna Guarnieri is their teacher.

Ravenwood Students Win First Place at Science Olympiad

Ravenwood students Gene Li and AJ Wei won first place in Material Science at the Tennessee State Science Olympiad. Their teacher is Avril Buerstetta.

 

Ravenwood Students Win First Place at Speech & Drama League Competition

Two Ravenwood High School students won first place at the Tennessee High School Speech and Drama League competition. Josh Mucci won in After Dinner Speaking, and Meredith Mullen won for Poetry. Their teacher is Kelly Duyn.


Ravenwood High Media Student Wins Award for Animation/Graphic and Special Effects

Ravenwood High School student Skylar Rabon won first place in the category of Animation/Graphics and Special Effects at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards. Her teacher is Laura Faber.

 

Ravenwood Wrestler Named All-American

Congratulations to Rex Shotts who became Ravenwood's first wrestling All American the weekend of March 29 at the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals. Rex placed eighth in the nation in his weight class, qualifying him for this honor. His coach at RHS is Josh Peck.

 

Summit High Media Student Wins Award for Best Editor

Summit High School student Morgan Haymer tied for first place in the category of Best Editor at the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Awards. His teacher is Kris Smith.

 

Summit High Students Earn Honors at Youth in Government Competition

Several Summit High School students earned honors at this year's Youth in Government competition. Eliot Geary and Billy Baumgart won the Outstanding Statesmen in Red House; Rielly Bethmann and Caitlyn Mulcahey won the Outstanding Red House Bill; and Jess Newman won the Outstanding Statesmen in Red Senate. Jess Newman was also elected the 2015 Red Senate Clerk. Matt Hoek is their teacher.

 

Summit Students Honored at TN State HOSA Competition

Summit High School student Kinsley Johnson won in the category of Job Seeking Skills at this year's Tennessee State HOSA competition. Hayden Hughes was elected the Tennessee HOSA Vice President. Their teachers are Christina Isong and Denise Asbury.
