Brentwood Middle Student's Artwork Becomes Part of a Comic Book

Former Edmondson Elementary and current Brentwood Middle student Ethan Douglas earned a Student Spotlight when his art was turned into a comic book character as part of the Comic and Fantasy Convention.

It all began when Ethan was in fourth grade at Edmondson. His art teacher, Beth Perthel, invited Joe Thordarson from the Memphis Comic and Fantasy Convention to talk with her students about comic book art and animation.

The students were given an assignment to create a character and a story or attributes to go with the character. From all the characters/stories submitted state-wide, Thordarson chose Ethan's to turn into a comic book.

It took several years, but the final outcome was put on display for the first time November 15 at the Animation Education conference in Nashville. Ethan's art teacher at Brentwood Middle is Maggie Tucker.
