Student Spotlight Awards are given to Williamson County students who placed first in state or national competitions. Each Student Spotlight award winner is recognized before the School Board at its monthly meeting. Listed below are the district's Student Spotlight Award winners for the month of October.

Brentwood High Students Selected for All-State Choir

Brentwood High School students Brentwood’s Jordan Breece and Andrew Fischer were named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Their teacher is Natalie Pratt.

 

Centennial High Students Selected for All-State Choir

Centennial High School students Alli Brown, Jake Cannon, Amelia Edwards, Sarah Moore and Rachel Keller were named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Their teacher is Mindy Hoover.

 

Franklin High Student Selected for All-State Choir

Franklin High School student Elizabeth Schenk was recently named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Her teacher is Cynthia Fehrman.

 

Independence High Students Selected for All-State Choir

Independence High School students Joseph Carter and Andrew Maguire were recently named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Their teacher is Mary Lee Atenhan.

 

Ravenwood High Students Selected for All-State Choir

Ravenwood High School students Melissa Danly, Jenna Nam, Collin Schey, Ellen Sudarshan, Emily Whitlow and Sarah Yang were recently named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Their teacher is Lauren Ramey.

 

Ravenwood Students Named National Achievement Scholarship Semifinalists

Two Ravenwood High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2014 National Achievement Scholarship Program, which recognizes academically talented African-American high school students.

Obezimnaka Boms and Frank Brown are among 1,600 teen semifinalists who will compete for about 800 scholarship awards worth more than $2.5 million in the spring. Students entered the competition as high school juniors by taking the 2012 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

To become a finalist, the semifinalist and their high school must submit a detailed scholarship application in which they provide information about the student’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment and awards received. Finalists will be named in January.


Ravenwood Athlete Selected as Under Armour All American

Ravenwood High School student Wesley Horky has been chosen to play in the 2014 Under Armour All-America High School Football Game. Wesley is a long snapper for the Raptors football team and is one of 90 players selected to compete in the annual contest, which highlights the country's top high school seniors.

The 2014 Under Armour All America Game is set for January 2 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, and will be televised on ESPN. Wesley's coach at Ravenwood is Will Hester.

 

Summit High Students Selected for All-State Choir

Summit High School students Savannah Benjamin, Kayla Hack, Celina James, Trevor Kassis, Caleb Ketring, Nicole Turner and Kristina Wall were recently named to the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's All State Choir. Their teacher is Jenna Elsberry.
