Student Spotlight Awards are given to Williamson County students who placed first in state or national competitions. Each Student Spotlight award winner is recognized before the School Board at its monthly meeting. Listed below are the district's Student Spotlight Award winners for the month of September.
Ravenwood Musician Selected for Prestigious Orchestra
Ravenwood High School Senior Gene Li was recently selected to the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honors Orchestra. Li, a violinist in the RHS orchestra, auditioned for the seat and was recommended by his instructor, Allison Cowan.
The NAfME All-National Honor Ensembles represent the top performing high school musicians in the United States. The organization will hold its national conference in Nashville in October, and the All-National Honors Orchestra will perform at the event.
RHS Senior Receives AP Scholar Award for Tennessee
Ravenwood High School Senior Venkata Amarthaluru received this year's AP Scholar Award for Tennessee, which recognizes high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.
The award is given each year to the one male and one female student in each state with scores of three or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams, and then the highest average score on all AP Exams taken.
Ravenwood Student Chosen to Attend Girls Nation
Ravenwood High School student Niman Mann is one of two girls from the state of Tennessee who have been chosen to attend American Legion Auxiliary Girls Nation in Washington D.C.
The weeklong event will include a mock presidential election, meetings with real-life government leaders and a visit to the White House. Girls Nation was designed to provide aspiring young women leaders with practical insight into how the federal government works.
Ravenwood Student Chosen to Attend Boys Nation
Ravenwood High School student Nikhal Basutkar is one of two boys from the state of Tennessee who have been chosen to attend the American Legion Boys Nation in Washington D.C.
At the event, each delegate acts as a senator from his Boys State. The young lawmakers caucus at the beginning of the session, then organize into committees and conduct hearings on bills submitted by program delegates. The week of government training also includes lectures, forums and visits to historical sites.
