Rumor Mill-5712

Published June 20, 2014

The purpose of this section is to answer any questions parents, teachers or community members might have regarding the school district and to set the record straight in regards to any rumors that might be circulating.

If you have a question or have heard a rumor that you would like for us to address, simply SEND US your questions and we will respond to them in upcoming issues of InFocus. Below are some of the questions we have received since our last issue.

How are valedictorians/salutatorians chosen for each high school?

The valedictorian is the student at each high school with the highest Grade Point Average (GPA); the salutatorian is the student with the second highest.

GPA calculation goes through a weighted scale (5 points for AP/IB courses and 4 points for standard/college prep courses). The district keeps running transcripts for GPA calculations up until the seventh semester and finalize after the eighth semester.

For high school transfer students, the cumulative GPA on the transcript for transferred work will be used without any recalculation other than conversion to a 4-point scale except that honors and Advanced Placement courses will be re-calculated to match the Williamson County Schools scale.

Additional information can be found in School Board Policy 4.600.
