How does WCS decide when to close school due to snow, ice, etc.?

Williamson County Schools has spotters across the district who keep an eye on road conditions throughout the day and night in the event of inclement weather. The district also receives regular updates from the County's Emergency Management office. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney then makes the final decision to close school based on all the information that has been gathered.

Since Williamson is a large county with many rural roads, hazardous conditions in one part of the county may close the entire district. When schools are closed due to weather, events are automatically cancelled at all schools. If parents use extended care at their elementary school, snow day plans will be communicated through that program.

Parents will be contacted by phone and email if schools are closed due to hazardous travel conditions. The district's phone notification system continues to be used by the school district and individual schools to notify parents of school closings and other important information.

In addition, parents, students and staff may “like” the school district FACEBOOK PAGE and follow the district on TWITTER to receive the district’s school closing information.
