IHS Marketing Students Raise Thousands for Charity

Published May 9, 2014

A group of Independence High School marketing students are using their knowledge to help out a worthy cause. Students in Wren Anderson's marketing classes have been busy this semester organizing and participating in several fundraiser events.

On April 24, the students organized a school-wide "Grub Day" where they sold everything from ice cream and cake pops to snow cones to raise money for a local charity called Gabe's My Heart, which helps children who undergo chemotherapy.

The students worked in teams with three to five people and created their own branding and advertising. They also were responsible for supplying their own merchandise, setting prices and selling the goods. In all, the students raised $2,173, which more than surpassed their goal of $1,500.

"It was a fantastic event where the students could demonstrate what they've learned in the marketing classes this year," said Anderson. "They were all exhausted afterward but they all said that it was so much fun, and they can't wait to do it again next year. It made me so happy to see the students working so hard for such an incredible charity."
