In November, a group of nine Fairview High School students got the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills during a trip to Washington D.C. Jordan Curtis, Katie McCord, Skylyr Hawkins, Allison Hulan, Ashley Coots, Montana Spicer, Nichole Cloyd, Megan McGeehee and Katherine Lincoln were among 400 students from around the nation who attended the 2013 Jobs for American Graduates (JAG) Leadership Academy in the nation's capital.
While there, the students competed in several work-related events which included public speaking, employment interviewing and poster design. Fairview High School Senior Ashley Coots was awarded second place in the National Employment Interviewing event.
State Representative Mary Littleton accompanied the group on their trip and arranged for the group from Tennessee to meet United State Senators Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander. The students also got a chance to visit a number of national monuments and participate in the wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns.
