Fairview Schools Receive Generous Donation

Students at four Williamson County schools will benefit from a generous donation by the Fairview Board of Commissioners. At its October 3 meeting, the Board announced it would be giving $89,200 to Fairview Elementary, Westwood Elementary, Fairview Middle and Fairview High schools. Each school will receive an equivalent to $40 per child based on enrollment.
The Fairview Board of Commissioners made a similar donation in 2012 as a way of supporting the district's Bring Your Own Technology initiative. Commissioner and WCS Ambasador Patti Carroll says she hopes the money will put technology into the hands of students.
"We are all very excited about the opportunity to help," said Carroll. "We had such positive feedback from the community and the local schools after the first donation that we decided to give again this year. All of the Commissioners have a strong desire to see our students succeed and who better to advocate for our local schools and the BYOT initiative than us. We are thrilled to be able to give this gift again this year."
Each principal will be allowed to choose how the money will be spent based on their school's needs. Fairview High School Principal Dr. Juli Oyer says there is nothing more powerful than when an entire community rallies around their schools.
"This contribution is proof of the belief not only in education itself but in the people who are teaching and working with our students every day," said Oyer. "Not only does this money benefit our students and teachers, it creates a powerful conversation throughout the community because people follow up and want to know what we are doing with the funding. It allows the community to engage with us in a different and wonderful way."
