Fairview Middle Students Participate in Service Learning Project

Published November 22, 2013

The Fairview Middle School STARS leadership team recently participated in an event called Peace Slam. Over 400 middle and high school students from around the mid-state were part of this event, which is a kick-off to the larger Peace Jam gathering which will take place in early 2014.

The students in attendance heard from multiple speakers who told them to make a positive change in the world by doing the small things that can impact their schools, communities and the world.

Some of the students at the Peace Slam event wrote letters to U.S. soldiers serving overseas; others packed a sack lunch for Room In The Inn, which serves the Middle Tennessee homeless population; and some students cut out shoe patterns that were shipped over to Uganda, sown into shoes and given to children who do not have any.

All told, more than 100 shoes were sent to Uganda; over 400 letters were sent to the U.S. military; and more than 400 sack lunches were prepared that day.
