Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students and staff in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
WCS Students Compete at World Jump Rope Competition
Congratulations to the Williamson County students who competed as part of the Hot Shots Jump Rope Team at this year's World Jump Rope Tournament in Orlando. Team members participated in numerous events including speed jumping, single rope freestyle routine and pairs freestyle routine. The following WCS students competed and were recognized at this year's tournament:
Hunters Bend Elementary:
William Pogue - silver in speed, bronze in chinese wheel, gold in freestyle, gold in double unders
Sydney Harris - gold in freestyle, bronze in double dutch 4 person, 5th in double dutch 3 person, 5th in speed
Sara Smith - silver in speed, bronze in double dutch 4 person freestyle
Emma Rose Smith - 6th in freestyle
Davis Beasley - 5th in speed, 4th in speed relay, 5th in double dutch 3 person freestyle, bronze in double dutch 4 person freestyle
Delaney Talbert - 4th in speed relay, 4th in freestyle, 5th in double dutch 3 person free, gold in team freestyle, bronze in double dutch 4 person freestyle
Grace Sparks - 4th in speed relay, gold in freestyle, silver in double dutch 3 person freestyle, gold in team freestyle
Franklin High:
Amanda Wehby - silver in single rope freestyle, silver in 30 second speed
Sarah Harden -5th in speed relay
Rachel Calhoun - 4th in speed relay, 5th in double dutch 3 person freestyle
Allison Bumm - 4th in speed relay, 5th in double dutch 3 person freestyle
Grassland Middle:
Hannah Walling - 5th in speed, 5th in speed relay, bronze in freestyle, silver in 3 person double dutch
Cara Moyers - 5th in speed relay, bronze in pairs freestyle,
Jacob Weatherford - bronze in speed, silver in 3 minute speed, bronze in freestyle, gold in double unders, bronze in chinese wheel
Page High:
Jordan Kerrigan - 5th in speed relay
Page High School Awarded HSTW Platinum High Achievement Award
Page High school is one of 15 schools that have been chosen to receive the 2014 High Schools That Work (HSTW) Platinum High Achievement Award.
This award is given to schools that had 85 percent or more of students meet one or more readiness goal; 85 percent or more of students complete one or more parts of the recommended curriculum; 85 percent or more of students complete at least one recommended concentration; achieve “high implementation” status; and have a graduation rate of 85 percent or higher and/or meets state AYP (on most recent state-reported data). Also, winning schools had at least 50 students complete the 2014 HSTW Assessment (or at least 75 percent of the senior class if it is fewer than 60 seniors).
The Southern Regional Education Board will recognize Page High July 16 during the HSTW Summer Staff Development Conference in Nashville.
Page High Students as TSA National Conference Finalists
Sixteen Page High School students recently traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in this year's Technology Student Association (TSA) National Conference. The TSA is an international student organization for students who are interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Listed below are some of the highlights:
PHS students Wilson Cochrane, Brock Bolton, Ben Wilt and Jacob Albert presented the colors, and Juhi Pathak performed the National Anthem during the opening ceremony.
Page High and Fairview Middle were two of 37 chapters in the country that received the Chapter of Excellence award.
Page High School students Grant Santilli placed 7th and Chase Moon placed 10th in the Flight Endurance competition.
Ravenwood Student Selected to Girls Nation
For the third year in a row, a Ravenwood High School student has been chosen to represent Tennessee at Girls Nation after completing Girls State. Ravenwood Senior Sruthi Madhu was selected for Girls Nation after running for Governor and representing one of the two political parties at Girls State. Sruthi (center) is pictured below with former RHS representatives to Girls Nation Niman Mann (left) and Charlene Hong (right). Meanwhile, Ravenwood High School Senior Chandler Flint was chosen to be the first alternate for Boys Nation.
