Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students and staff in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Williamson County Commission Issues Proclamation of Achievement for WCS
Williamson County Commissioner Brian Beathard presented the Williamson County Schools Board of Education with a Proclamation of Achievement at the June 9 County Commission meeting. The proclamation was given in light of the most recent news regarding the district being ranked first in the nation out of all public school districts serving over 20,000 students by SchoolDigger.com. WCS Board Chairman Pat Anderson accepted the proclamation and thanked the county commission for its support.
Brentwood High Grad Awarded Stamps Leadership Scholarship
Brentwood High School graduate Ruth Dunn has been named a recipient of the Stamps Leadership Scholarship to Louisiana State University. The value of the scholarship for four years at LSU is worth approximately $173,000. This scholarship includes enrichment funds for international travel, research internships and outdoor leadership experiences. Ruth was chosen for this honor based on her leadership, perseverance, service and creativity. She plans to major in biology/premedicine at LSU.
Brentwood High Athletes Break National Record
Five Brentwood High School athletes recently broke a national record for a team average in the 3200 meter run. Aaron Thomas, Alec Thomas, Taylor Caldwell, Coleman Churitch and Gavin Hasty combined for a five-man team average of 9:05.22 in the 3200 to earn the Postal National record and place first in the national rankings. The five runners achieved their times at different events throughout this past season. The previous record of 9:05.40 was held by a team from Indiana's Hammond High School in 1975.
Centennial High Cheerleaders Win First Place at Tournament
Congratulations to the Centennial High School cheerleaders for coming in first place at the Gulf Shores Cheer Camp. In addition, the cheerleading squad won leadership awards at this year's event.
Franklin High Graduate Receives Sheriffs’ Association Scholarship
Franklin High School graduate William Pittenger was recently awarded the Tennessee Sheriffs Association (TSA) Scholarship. He received $500 in scholarships for his first year at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Each year, the TSA accepts applications and selects the scholarship recipients. The TSA scholarship program is designed for the sons and daughters of full time employees at sheriffs’ offices across Tennessee. William plans to major in accounting. Ravenwood High Student attends American Legion Boys State Program
Ravenwood High School Senior Chandler Flint was among the students from around the state who attended the American Legion Boys State Program this summer. While there, Chandler was elected as mayor of his city. He was also chosen as first alternate to attend Boys Nation. Chandler is pictured below with United States Senator Lamar Alexander.
Woodland Middle Latin Students Earn Awards
Several Woodland Middle School students had a strong showing on this year's National Latin Exam and National Mythology Exam. Emily Keith received a silver medal in the Nation Latin exam; Katie Hanmer earned Magna Cum Laude; and Kelsie Chisholm and Mathew Downey placed Cum Laude. Kelsie Chisholm also received a Bronze Medal in the National Mythology exam.
WCS Employee Named President-Elect of Tennessee Association of School Communicators
Williamson County Schools Communications Specialist Cory Mason has been elected President-Elect of the Tennessee Association of School Communicators (TASC). TASC is officially affiliated with the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) which is a professional organization dedicated to building support and trust for education through responsible public relations that leads to success for all students.
