Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students and staff in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Fairview ELL Teacher Named
Congratulations to Williamson County English Language Learners (ELL) teacher Tiffany Wilson-Mobley for being named the TNESOL Teacher of the Year. She works with Fairview elementary, middle and high schools. She is pictured below with her two daughters after receiving the award March 21.
Hillsboro Band Earns Superior Ratings
The Hillsboro seventh and eighth grade symphonic band recently earned Superior ratings in both prepared performance and sight-reading at the MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment at MTSU. This is the highest rating possible and the first superior rating for Hillsboro School!
Franklin High Mock Trial Team Places Fifth in State
Congratulations to members of the Franklin High School mock trial team for finishing fifth at the state tournament. Several students also earned individual accolades. Maddie Bouton was named the top defense witness in the state; Carson Cook earned top ranking as the defense attorney in the state; and Jimmy Wester, an attorney for the plaintiff team, was named the overall team MVP.
Franklin High Student Receives $1,000 Check from America Red Cross
Franklin High School Senior Rachel Caulkins was recently awarded a $1,000 check from the American Red Cross. Rachel is the president of the Franklin High School chapter of the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).
Rachel volunteered her time to organize six separate blood donation drives over the past two years, which netted more than 350 pints of blood. Because each pint of blood can be used to save the lives of three people, Rachel’s efforts potentially benefited over 1,000 patients.
Page High Educator Named TSA Advisor of the Year
Congratulations to Page High School Computer Drafting Teacher Beth Foreman for being named the Tennessee Technology Student Association Advisor of the Year. She is pictured below with several of her students after receiving the award.
Page High Students Earn Recognition at TSA State Competition
A number of Page High School students were honored at this year's Technology Student Association State Conference. Their advisors are Jimmy Baker and Beth Foreman.

Notable Mention: Jarod Teaque assisted with several team projects and drew the CAD drawings for dragster design.
Ravenwood Orchestra Receives Gold Standard at Competition
Over the break, members of the RHS orchestra performed in competition at the Southern Music Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. They received the Gold Standard (the highest honor). The RHS Orchestra is directed by Allison Cowan.
Ravenwood Teacher Named TN Geography Teacher of the Year
Ravenwood High School Teacher Kristi Neuroth won the 2014 Tennessee Geography Teacher of the Year award. Neuroth was nominated for the annual award by Mt. Pleasant High School teacher David Huebner. The Tom & Stella Mulane Award for Geography Teacher of the Year is sponsored by the Tennessee Geographic Alliance and was presented to Neuroth by TGA Executive Director Kurt Butefish.
Ravenwood Students Named Winners of Arbor Day Essay Contest
Congratulations to the following Ravenwood High School students for being named winners of the Brentwood Library Arbor Day Essay Contest:
- 1st place: Megan McCarter
- 2nd place: McKenzie Atwood
- 3rd place: Ellie Marquardt
They will read their essays on Arbor Day, April 5, at the Brentwood Library, with the ceremony beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Ravenwood High Places Second at Chemistry Olympiad
Several Ravenwood High School students recently competed in the Chemistry Olympiad. This is a multi-tiered competition sponsored by the American Chemical Society.
In the team competition, Ravenwood Team 1 placed second. Members include Rohan Tummala, Amy Ouyang, Ethan Riley and Stanley Xiang. Other Ravenwood students who competed include Jenna Nam, Reagan Anthony, Aditya Sathe and Gabby Dent.
The regional tournament also nominates 10 students to sit for the National Chemistry Olympiad Exam and Lab Practical. No more than two students can qualify per school. Rohan Tummala and Amy Ouyang were both nominated.
Ravenwood High Students Win Big at State DECA Competition
Congratulations to the following Ravenwood High School DECA students for placing and qualifying to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta May 3-6.

Summit High Student Wins Writing Contest
Summit High School Junior Jessica Newman is the winner of this year's Middle Tennessee Electric membership Corporation Writing Contest. The essay topic was “Electric Cooperatives: Powering our Community." As a result of the win, Jessica will receive $100 and an all-expense paid trip to Washington DC. While in Washington, Jessica will tour the Capitol with hundreds of other students her age from all over the country.
Summit High Team Places Fourth at Chemistry Olympiad
Summit High School's Chemistry Olympiad team placed fourth at the March 8 competition at Tennessee Tech. Two students, Anthony Kupecz and Caitlyn Mulcahey, qualified for the National Exam and won “Best Lab Performance." Their coach is Jim Cherry.
Summit High Student Earns Spot on USA World Cup Clay Target Team
Samantha Smith, a Summit High School junior and member of Summit's Clay Target Team, earned a coveted spot on USA's World Cup Championships Team following her performance at a USA Shootings Spring Selection match in Kerrville, Texas. Samantha won the Junior Gold Medal at the event.
She will represent Summit High School and the United States in Germany May 23-June 1 at a World Cup match. She will also compete at the World Cup Championships in Granada, Spain in September. This year's World Championship will be the first shoot where countries can earn Olympic quota spots for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
Summit High Fishing Club Finishes Third at Tournament
The Summit High School Fishing Club recently finished third in a Southern Slam Tournament on Lake Wheeler in Alabama. Noah Boyett, Hunter Deselle, Asher Anders and Nathan Olsen enjoyed a couple of days on the lake and learned a tremendous amount. This is Summit’s first year to have a fishing team.
Summit Senior Receives Ned McWherter Scholarship
Summit High School Senior Victoria Hawkins has been named a recipient of the 2014-15 Ned McWherter Scholarship. This program, which is named after former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter, was created to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Victoria will receive a total of $6,000 per academic year.
Summit High Places Third at Junior Achievement Competition
Several Summit High School students participated in this year's Junior Achievement Company program. The group was comprised of students in Amanda Muniz's entrepreneurship class at SHS. They competed at the Middle Tennessee showcase in March and finished in third place based on their written plan, commercial, trade fair booth and presentation. The presenters were Ashlyn Anglim, Dale Burdick, Austin Vieceli and Drew Bell.
Sunset Elementary Wrestler Places Second at Tournament
Lucas Uliano, fifth grader at Sunset Elementary School, placed second at the Tennessee State AAU individual wrestling tournament in the Junior 75 pounds bracket. The tournament was held in Cookeville. Lucas also qualified for a spot on the Team Tennessee wrestling team that will wrestle in a National Dual held in Kingsport this April.
Woodland Middle Band & Choir Show Off New Hardware
The Woodland Middle School band and choir have some new hardware to add to the school's trophy case. The band performed at the local MTSBOA festival and received the highest rating of Superior both on stage and in the sight reading room.
The band then met with the choir and traveled to Orlando, Florida, where they all competed in Orlandofest. The choir received first place in their class and was asked to perform at the awards ceremony. The jazz band received first place in their class as well. The concert band received first place in their class and were crowned grand champions of the contest by being the highest scoring ensemble.
