Below is a list of recent accomplishments by Williamson County students and staff in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts. They are listed in alphabetical order according to school.
Students Named to Middle Tennessee Vocal Association Honor Choir
Congratulations to the Williamson County students who were chosen to be part of the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association's Middle School Honor Choir. The students performed at a concert in Hermitage January 28.
The WCS students who participated include Brentwood Middle students Daniel Hosny, Harry Malinowski, Quinn Heithcock and Shane McNabb; Hillsboro students Gabrielle Esquer and Sofia Kimball; and Sunset Middle students Alex Horne, Xan Weaver, Hannah Kapolas and Madeline Wood. Their instructors are Will Lambert, Brentwood Middle; Susan Stumne, Hillsboro; and Jeff Myrick, Sunset Middle.
Brentwood Middle School Artists Earn Recognition at Scholastic Art Competition
Several Brentwood Middle School eighth graders received recognition at the recent Scholastic Art Competition. Laura Guo won a silver medal with her book jacket design called Hare Hair; Adrienne Harrell won an honorable mention with her design titled Letters from Paris; Anna Lynn Carmichael won an honorable mention for her photography titled Rust; and Caroline Wilson won an honorable mention with her sculpture called Jump in This.
Fairview Elementary Student Wins School Spelling Bee
On Tuesday, January 28, Fairview Elementary School held its second annual spelling bee for students in grades three through five. Each grade level sent their top spellers to compete in front of their classmates and parents. The winner was third grader Aaron Hamlett (pictured below) and the runner up was fellow third grader Chance Carter.
Fairview High Students Compete at TSA Conference
Nine Fairview High School students won honors at this year's Middle TN Technology Student Association Conference on January 9. The students are pictured below with their trophies. They are Shelby Carroll, Nic Murray, Tanner Hyatt, Keegan Stinson, Logan Johnson, Carly Rocco, Faith Jackson, Madison Stewart and Holly Fahy.
Franklin High Girls Bowling Team Wins Regional Tournament
Congratulations to the Franklin High School Girls Bowling Team. They won the Regional Bowling Tournament January 16. Foster Montgomery is their sponsor.
Franklin High Artists Featured in Nashville Arts Magazine
Four Fanklin High School AP Studio Art students were recently featured in the January issue of the Nashville Arts Magazine. Sydney Duncan, Sofi Goodwin, Abi Lewis and Annika Virden met with a writer, photographer and editor for the magazine. The article can be viewed online at http://nashvillearts.com.
GMS Seventh Grader Wins Grassland Middle Spelling Bee
After 14 rounds and over 200 words, Grassland Middle School seventh grader Josh Garretson won the school Spelling Bee. Josh will represent GMS at the regional spelling bee March 15. Words such as prognosticate, bloviate and unctuous were spelled correctly. The runner-up is Sophia Badalian with David Xu and Ethan Budge placing third and fourth respectively.
Heritage Middle Girls Basketball Team Earns Second Place at Tournament
Congratulations to the Heritage Middle School Varsity Girls Basketball Team for winning second place at the Spring Hill Christmas Tournament. The players are Daesha McAdams, Amanda Haylett, Kaitlyn Hearn, Shelby Harvey, Gentry Davis, Jade Gomoljak, Ariel Bullock, Kaylea Keller, Hannah Johnson, Grace Sanchez and Chaela Hastings. They are coached by Kassi Fox and Sarah Nicholls.
Lipscomb Elementary Student Wins School Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Lipscomb Elementary School students Lily Batey and Carissa Shuxteau for their accomplishments in the Lipscomb Elementary Spelling Bee. Lily (left) will represent Lipscomb Elementary at the Regional Bee and Carissa will serve as alternate.
Longview Elementary Student Named Spelling Bee Champ
Longview Elementary School recently held its annual spelling bee. Wyatt Perkins won the event and will advance to the local spelling bee March 15. Jayley Jackson was named the runner-up. The purpose of the spelling bee is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives.
Page High Students Compete at TSA Regional Conference
Thirty students from Page High School participated in the Middle TN Technology Student Association Conference January 9. The students competed in 10 of the 14 categories and brought home a total of nine trophies.
The winners are: Juhi Pathak (2nd in Career Preparation); Brock Bolton, Wilson Cochrane and Chase Moon (2nd in Chapter Team); Natalie Briscoe, Austin Buffalo and Braden Wells (3rd in Chapter Team); Katherine Hill (2nd in Flight Endurance); Grant Santilli and Michael Bianchi (1st in Structural Engineering); Anna Bowlds (2nd in Technical Sketching and Application); Ashley Jones (3rd in Technical Sketching and Application); Michael Lee, Isaac Rizzo, Drew Salazar and Logan Harvey (3rd in Technology Bowl); and Camron Midgette and Jarod Teaque (1st in Technology Problem Solving). The teachers and sponsors are Beth Foreman and Jimmy Baker.

Page High Thespian Elected to State Executive Advisory Board
Page High School student Doug Buckley was recently elected to the State Executive Advisory Board at the Tennessee State Thespian conference. More than 800 students from around the state attended this year's conference at MTSU.

Ravenwood Wrestlers Win Regional Tournament
The Ravenwood wrestling team won the Regional title for the fifth year in a row January 26 by beating McGavock and Brentwood. Members include Wil Brintall, Caleb Brown, Jeff Cajeras, Jordan Cornett, Andrew Debattista, Jack Finnegan, Alec Finney, Derek Finney, Chandler Flint, Jacob Freeman, Andrew Gaittens, Ryan Geltch, Stephen Geltch, Camden Grecco, Clayton Hale, Hunter Hays, Seth Huffman, Hayden Jennings, Turner Jones, Robin Klingensmith, Kyle Kuehnhold, Andrew Long, Evan Long, Jonathan Mabry, Ryan McLean, Tyler Newsom, Alex Omessi, Paul Park, Sam Park, Grant Parsons, Victor Putala, Bowen Reau, Tanner Reynolds, Michael Seale, Preston Shotts, Rex Shotts, Jordan Sine, Cade Smith, Blaine Towery, Jacob Travis, Rhondell Walker, Taylor Warren and Grant Whitmer. They are coached by Josh Peck.
Ravenwood Students Places First at TSA Regional Conference
Congratulations to Ravenwood High School student Tejas Manohar for winning first place in Prepared Presentations at the Tennessee Technology Student Association Regional Conference. The conference was held January 9 at Middle Tennessee State University.
Members from around Middle Tennessee apply and integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics through competitive events. Several other Ravenwood students attended this year's conference including Chris Bridges, Matthew MacNeil, Jerry Lu, Sudeep Ghantasala, Zachary Mack, and Nikhil Arun.
Summit High Boys Bowling Team Goes Undefeated
For the first time in school history, an athletic team at Summit High has gone undefeated during the regular season. The boys bowling team went 14 and 0, shutting out every team in the district. Along with having an outstanding season, Summit had two bowlers qualify and participate in the state playoffs. Camden Gutshall was ranked second in the district and third in the state prior to the playoffs. Matthew Butler was ranked third in the district and 28th in overall state.
Woodland Middle Mathletes Have Strong Showing at Mini Mu Math Competition
Woodland Middle School mathletes recently competed in the Magical World of Math Mini-Mu Math Competition at Brentwood High School. More than 300 middle school students took part in this event. Warrior mathletes placed in all six categories and won first place in the poster contest.
