Pat Anderson was reelected as School Board Chairman and Gary Anderson was reelected as Board Vice-Chairman as the first order of business during the September 16 Williamson County Board of Education meeting.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Mike Looney shared that he had received a letter from Governor Bill Haslam in support of Education Commissioner Kevin Huffman. He also told the Board that almost 34,000 were enrolled.
In the Board Chairman’s Report, Pat Anderson thanked Summit High for hosting First Camp. A video about the program can be found in the September 13 edition of InFocus. She also praised the high school and middle school bands for excellent performances at the Annual Band Exhibition that was held last weekend.
- In New Business, the Board:
Approved three 2013-2014 General Purpose School Fund Budget amendments including a resolution for $98,245 in donated funds for computers for the Ladders to HOPE program; a resolution for $10,000 for a gift from the Scarlett Family Foundation to Fairview Elementary for summer programs; and a resolution for $45,572 for an after school tutoring program at Centennial High through the Lottery for Education: Afterschool Programs, LEAP. - Approved an intra-category transfer for $196,245 to purchase computers for the Ladders to HOPE project.
- Approved a 2013-14 General Purpose resolution for $664,798 for an additional 12 teachers to be used where needed.
- Approved a Central Cafeteria Fund resolution for $125,000 for food service equipment replacement at Grassland Middle and at the student support services building.
- Approved an Extended School Program Fund resolution for $131,593 for new programs at Walnut Grove and Bethesda elementary schools.
- Approved allowing Dr. Looney to pursue litigation against the Tennessee Department of Education for refusal to allow coding corrections.
- Approved tenure recommendations for 11 educators who had attained tenure, resigned, rejoined the district and then completed the two-year probationary period.
In other business, the Board:
- Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
- Approved the 2013-14 extended contract program proposal.
- Approved the calendar committee membership.
- Approved the disposal of surplus property at auction September 28.
- Approved a consultant contract over $10,000 for professional development with Renaissance Learning Inc.
- Approved the McKinney-Vento Act, Education of Homeless Children & Youth Grant Program.
The next regular meeting of the WCBE will be Monday, October 21, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Administrative Complex.
