Across the Board - November 18, 2013

Friday, August 8, 2014, will be the first half day of school for students in 2014-15 school year as the new calendar was adopted during the November 18, 2013, Williamson County Board of Education meeting. Other highlights include the first teacher day which will be Friday, August 1; Fall Break October 10 and 13; Thanksgiving Holiday November 24 through 28; Winter Break December 22 through January 2; and Spring Break March 16 through 20. The last student day is a half day, May 21; and the last teacher day is May 22.

In the Superintendent’s Report, Dr. Mike Looney celebrated the district’s straight A’s in Achievement and Growth on the State Report Card. He also told the Board that the district had reached a settlement with the State Department of Education to his satisfaction. The Board then formally accepted the State’s letter.

In the Board Chairman’s Report, Pat Anderson praised the fall sports teams and marching bands for their accomplishments and wished Independence and Fairview football teams well in their pursuit of State championships. She thanked Board member Rick Wimberly for his work on the Williamson County Education Foundation and for the Ladders to HOPE celebration.

In New Business, the Board:

  • Approved two policies on first reading, Board Meeting Agendas and Overtime Pay.
  • Approved four amendments to the 2013-2014 General Purpose School Fund Budget, including one for $139,169 through the Energy Efficient Schools Initiative Energy Grant; a resolution for $5,610 for PTO funded part time computer lab assistant at Pearre Creek Elementary; a resolution for $540,080 for additional Special Education expenses to include two teachers, 18.4 teacher assistants, one psychologist and other expenses; and a resolution for $100,000 to cover the educational supplement for advanced degrees for principals.
  • Approved 2013-14 School Board Goals.
  • Approved the evaluation of the 2012-13 School Board Goals.
  • Approved rezoning recommendations for the 2014-15 school year.

In other business, the Board:

  • Approved recommended field trip fee requests.
  • Approved the Energy Efficient Schools Initiative (EESI) Council’s Grant for Reimbursement on Various Energy Related Projects.
