Brentwood High - Connor Grant

Brentwood High School senior Connor Grant knows a thing or two about competition. As a member of the boys soccer team, Connor routinely goes head-to-head with some of the best athletes in the mid-state. The experience has taught Connor how to be motivated and focused on the field.

Connor says he applies the same knowledge to his schoolwork, which might explain why he was recently selected as Brentwood High School's Academic All-Star for the 2013-14 school year. He credits the wonderful staff at BHS for creating an atmosphere that's conducive for success.

"The competitive nature of the school really brings out the best of all the students," said Connor. "It's expected that you do well, which drives me to be a better person and a better student."

Connor and his family moved to Williamson County from Ontario, Canada, when he was in fifth grade. While he has enjoyed many of his classes and teachers over the past few years, one in particular stands out.

"My favorite class would have to be AP Language," said Connor. "I will never look at writing the same way after that class. Looking at the authors, what they've written and their human experience, delving into that was very interesting to me."

While he's not yet sure which college he'll attend, Connor says he plans to study biology and neuroscience with the goal of one day becoming an orthopedic surgeon. That's why Connor says he'll continue working hard to accomplish his future goals.

"Doing well in school is really important to me; I love learning and I enjoy doing well," said Connor. "It's important to me because I want to have a good future and be successful in life."
