Williamson County Parent Wins National Award

Published November 29, 2012

A Williamson County parent recently earned national recognition for his dedication and service to students. On November 10, Hillsboro School parent PJ Littleton was presented with the Patrick John Hughes Outstanding Parent/Booster Award by the Music for All and Bands of America organizations.

This annual award recognizes one outstanding band parent or booster member from across the country who demonstrates exceptional dedication and service to their respective band program. Littleton is the first middle school parent/booster to win the award.

Not only did Littleton help spearhead the effort to start a band program at Hillsboro, but he has also raised over $65,000 for the program, led jazz band sectionals, introduced new recruiting strategies, created new band traditions, attended monthly PTO meetings and helped create a new Band Booster Club at Hillsboro School.

"I am so proud of PJ and his hard work to help make our program a huge success," said Hillsboro Band Director Cameron Gish. "He is truly an outstanding ambassador for music education in our community."

Littleton received the award in front of 20,000 spectators at the 2012 Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, which is regarded by many as the pinnacle of marching band competition in the country. Here is a VIDEO of the award presentation.

Ravenwood High School Parent Steven Klintworth was also a finalist for the national award.
