WCS Students Achieve Perfect ACT Score

Published April 4, 2013

Four Williamson County juniors have pulled off a feat few students in the nation can lay claim to: a perfect score on the ACT.

Brentwood High School students Ruth Dunn and Joyce Kang and Ravenwood High School students Niman Mann and Timothy Jiang received a composite score of 36 on the ACT, which assesses students’ academic readiness for college.

Jiang says he focused on studying the style of the questions to better prepare for the March exam. “I believe that understanding the format of the questions and what they would like you to answer is a major key to success," said Jiang.

While the number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student's composite score is the average of the four test scores.
