WCS Serves Thanksgiving Meals to Fairview Community

Published November 29, 2012

The Williamson County Schools Food Service Department served more than 200 free meals to members of the Fairview community Thanksgiving Day. The dinner was open to anyone in the Fairview community who wanted to come.

Various food vendors and brokers from across the area donated the food, while WCS employees and members of the Food Service Department prepared and served the traditional turkey dinner. The idea generated from WCS Food Services Director James Remete who wanted to find a way to serve others this holiday.

“I have been wanting to put on a meal like this for some time,” said Remete. “I met with Fairview Elementary Principal Joan Tidwell and she embraced the idea whole heartedly."

Tidwell said the event was a huge success and she hopes it will become a Thanksgiving Day tradition.

"Watching people enjoy a hot meal together who might otherwise have been spending the holiday alone was a sight that warmed us from the inside out," said Tidwell. "From the Food Service Department to the four community schools, to the staff, parents and students from the Fairview community, the event was a true community effort."
