Published May 31, 2013
Dozens of Williamson County graduates will soon be trading in their book bags for combat boots. The district held a military signing ceremony May 19 in Franklin to honor the students who will be joining the armed forces upon graduation.
"It's people like you that volunteer to join, to pick up arms, to defend this great country," said Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney when addressing the signees. "It's people like you that make a difference."
Nearly half of the 40 identified students who have chosen military careers, either by signing on for active service, being accepted into one of the country's military academies or in the reserve, were on hand for this special event.
