WCS Begins Accreditation Process
Published March 7, 2013
Williamson County Schools is currently undergoing an accreditation review. It's a process that must take place every five years in order for the district to maintain its status as an accredited school district. The internationally recognized AdvancED Systems Accreditation Institute is the group that determines the district's status.
"Accreditation is important for our graduates as they apply for college and career opportunities," said WCS Professional Development Coordinator Laurette Carle. "The review process has helped us reflect and identify both strengths and areas for improvement as we strive to continuously improve the quality of our school system."
WCS began the process in August with online surveys of parents, staff and students. Schools then did their own self-assessments against a rubric with standards and indicators. The district followed with a system-level internal review against the same standards and indicators.
On March 4, a team of eight external reviewers arrived in town to interview central office staff, school board members and principals as well as make site visits to eight schools: Brentwood Middle, Centennial High, Fairview High, Independence High, Oak View Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Westwood Elementary and Woodland Middle.
The team presented their exit report to the Superintendent and the School Board March 6. Select this LINK to watch the presentation in its entirety. The official accreditation status and written report will be received in April and presented to the Board.
