TV Show Helps Students Learn Marketing Skills

A popular television program is helping students at Brentwood High School learn about marketing.
The school's Marketing and Entrepreneurship classes have been using ABC's television program Shark Tank, a show that follows inventors as they compete for investments from a celebrity panel of judges, to learn how to create and sell a product.
"This brings many of the learning targets that we teach to life," said BHS Marketing Teacher Lisa Nease. "It is real world brought into the classroom. So when you hear that our students are watching Shark Tank in class, their learning is becoming relevant."
Nease says her students are currently working on a project where they must create a product and "pitch" it just like the contestants on Shark Tank.
Coincidentally, 2004 Brentwood High School graduate Taylor Gwiazdon will be featured on the show April 5 where he will compete with a product of his design.
"Taylor has taken his entrepreneurial and marketing skills to an incredible level," said Nease. "He has invented a unique concept to a cooler and will present it on Shark Tank. This is every teacher's dream for her students."
The episode of Shark Tank featuring Gwiazdon will air Friday, April 5 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
