Sunset Principals Camp Out at School

Sunset Elementary Principal Karen Caldwell and Assistant Principal Brent Oakley promised their school they would camp out in tents if students raised $20,000 at the annual Stallion Stampede.
Turns out, students raised a grand total of $26,700 at the fun run and the principals kept their word. On Monday, May 13, Caldwell and Oakley set up their tents on the school grounds and prepared for a long, chilly night under the stars.
“I am super thankful for all the parents and students who worked so hard to raise this money,” said Caldwell. “We are incredibly overwhelmed by the support of our parents on a daily basis and this is just more evidence of that.”
The money will be used to buy laptops for fourth grade classrooms.
“We want to make class sets of 30, so every student can have access to computers," said Oakley. “Right now we have laptops in fifth grade, so we are going to use these laptops for fourth grade. We are planning to try and raise more money in the future to buy laptops for third grade.”
Students and parents had the opportunity to bring food and items to the principals, who stayed in their tents until students arrived the next morning.
