Student Spotlight Awards are given to Williamson County students who placed first in state or national competitions. Each Student Spotlight award winner is recognized before the School Board at their monthly meeting. Listed below are the district's Student Spotlight Award winners for the month of January.
Brentwood High Athlete Named TN Player of the Year
Brentwod High School Senior Meg Howard has been named the 2012 Tennessee State Player of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Howard was also named to the 2012 High School All-American Team by the NSCAA, the largest coaches' group in the nation. She is the only Tennessee player on the team.
Howard's phenomenal season helped lead Brentwood to win the district, region and state tournament titles. BHS finished the season ranked sixth nationally by the NSCAA. Her coach is Cal Long.
Fairview High Student Wins JAG Interview Competition
Fairview High School's Celina Ferrell impressed the judges at this year's Jobs for America's Graduates' (JAG) National Employee Interview competition.
Ferrell won first place and received a special plaque at this year's National Student Leadership Academy in Washington D.C. Her teacher is Vickie Parsons.
Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is a state-based national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing dropouts among young people who are most at-risk.
Fairview High Student Wins JAG Video Contest
Fairview High School Student Amy Grayson won first place in the Kuder-Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) video contest.
The goal of the contest was to highlight the partnership between Kuder and JAG and to illustrate how these two organizations are making a difference in graduation and college completion rates, and post-graduation employment rates.
Fairview High School was awarded a prize of $1,500 for coming in first. Select this LINK to view the winning video titled, Planning Your Dreams.

Franklin Student Wins JAG Cover Design Competition
Franklin High School Student Erin Gill won first place in the Jobs for America's Graduates Cover Design competition.
Gill was recognized with a special plaque at this year's National Student Leadership Academy in Washington D.C. Her teacher is Cathy Dennis.
Franklin High Students Win Digital Storytelling Competition
Franklin High School Students Emily MacLeod, Brooke Harden and Mandy Tennille recently won first place in the Tennessee eTales competition for grades 9-12.
Tennessee eTales is an annual digital storytelling contest that's open to any student or teacher in a K-12 Tennessee school. Select this LINK to view their video titled If I Were President.
